VMA Red-Carpet Roundup: From Katy Perry's Pinup Pants To T-Pain's Top Hat

Short, sweet and glittering. That's the best way to sum of money up the majority of the ladies' looks on the red carpet of the VMAs this class. Though many arrived in muted champagne and blush tones, a few stars did manage to stand out from the crowd, literally.

Before she began her duties as MTV News' red-carpet fashion commentator, Taylor Swift showed up in a blush-colored dress with a bustier-style top and a chick that flowed out from her, accessorized by gold heels, a funky long necklace and chunky bracelet. Later, she changed into a Blumarine show-stopper: a short, gold-embellished drop-waist dress with dim pumps.

Swift's rivals for Best New Artist, Miley Cyrus and Katy Perry, arrived hand-in-hand. Katy embraced her inner pinup in hot pants and a halter she aforesaid she acquired at a thrift storage. By contrast, Miley was more sophisticated, though motionless playful, in a glittery charcoal peacock-printed sheath dress.

Fellow New Artist nominees Tokio Hotel hard more on their hair and wild ride than their outfits, but Bill looked endearing in his multiple chain necklaces, leather vest and tight jeans. The rest of the guys just cannot vie with his androgynous beauty! Meanwhile, the Jonas Brothers arrived in their usual hipster suits: Nick in gray, Kevin in black and Joe in white.

(Read all around how Tokio Hotel and others arrived at the VMAs here.)

T-Pain was anything but usual: He arrived on an elephant, and naturally, had to wear a red top lid and a red tuxedo jacket to complete his circus ringmaster chic.

We've always been able to count on Christina Aguilera's fashion statements at the VMAs. The new mama looked ravishing in a tenacious black gown with a mermaid stern hemline. Rihanna followed up last year's hot-pink bit with a tight black strapless top and yellow-and-green asymmetrical skirt paired with white platforms and some bangles. It was one of the singer's more than sedate red carpet moments. But Pink, like always, stood out from the crowd together with a platinum-blonde faux-hawk, a black-and-red vertical-striped nightie with a belt and dangling earrings.

Ciara glittered in a scintillating silver minidress by Dolce & Gabanna with a giant black belt. Ashlee Simpson and her baby bump were more subdued in a long, flowy, black Alexander McQueen nightgown. And in a mini white dress, Ashley Tisdale was ying to Ashlee's yang.

The "Hills" girls were alive with the levelheaded of way. Lauren Conrad wore a short white and flatware dress with a deep V-cut neckline and silver medal peep-toe heels. Frenemie Stephanie Pratt kicked off the night in a black strapless minidress with heaps of bling bling, showing off her gams in super high bolshie pumps. Lo was in a floral-print gown with sparkle on the straps and around the dcolletage. Audrina Patridge rocked a champagne bubble mini-dress in gold. Heidi channeled disco music glamour in a sparkly black off-the-shoulder dress, patch Spencer wore his signature flesh-colored face fungus and a suit.

Jordin Sparks looked fresh and young in a glittery black dress with a pinko belt, patch Solange brightened things up in a fuchsia ruffle minidress with a giant Fendi clutch and chopine sandals. Lindsay Lohan kept it mere in a purple satin dress with sleeves.

Paramore's Hayley Williams was a mussiness, probably on purpose. In an greenish blue dress, the grrrlicious lead singer opted for a bow tie-up and a bed-head bet (that's a nice elbow room of saying she forgot to comb her hair).

Jermaine Dupri was dapper in a grey tie, grayness vest and gray tweed suit bloomers with a tuxedo band down the side. Ne-Yo showed up in a fedora, leather jacket and pants that were very similar to JD's simply without the tuxedo stripe. Continuing the tweed tendency was Lupe Fiasco, wHO managed to make the look even geekier by tucking his pants into his bike boots. Chris Brown took a pool stick from Lupe and tucked his jeans into his high crack. He also wore a diamond broach that he may or may non have borrowed from his grandmother!

Some other notable red carpet appearances included T.I., world Health Organization wore a crimson dinner jacket jacket with no tie beam. Mel B looked hot in a champagne-colored aglitter mini-dress and heels. Tila Tequila mixed things up by eroding a frilled button-down shirt and knickers. And of course, Kid Rock classed things up in a wifebeater with a fedora.

Who do you think rocked the red ink carpet wagerer? Let us know in the comments!

It's a roll! Now that the 2008 VMAs let come and gone, check out all the winners, the near surprising moments, the best red-carpet fashions and more at VMA.MTV.com.

Posh to appear on Oprah Winfrey Show

Washington (ANI): Victoria Beckham is set appear on Oprah Winfrey Show later this year in an attempt to woo U.S. TV audiences into supporting her fashion label. The former Spice Girl has accepted the offer in a bid to prove she is not just a soccer star's wife. "She's spoken to Oprah's TV firm Harpo and wants to prove she isn't just David Beckham's wife but has a career in fashion," Contactmusic quoted a source, as telling Britain's Sunday Mirror newspaper. Beckham has become better recognised as an international style icon, rather than a music artist. Posh designed a limited-edition fashion line for Rock & Republic called VB Rocks in 2004, before launching her own denim label of which she acts as creative director called dvb Style. On 14 June 2007 Beckham launched her dvb Denim collection in New York at the high-end Saks Fifth Avenue.

As the frontman for the epical British drone-pop banding the Verve, Richard Ashcroft proven himself the religious descendant of rock & wrap icons like Mick Jagger and Jim Morrison -- rivetingly magnetic, menacingly snaky, and obsessed of an almost shamanic intensiveness, he embraced and articulate the anthemic fervor of rock music with a great power and eloquence unique by whatsoever of his coevals. Ashcroft was innate September 11, 1971, in the Wigan suburban area of Billinge, attending Upholland Comprehensive School alongside future Verve match Simon Jones, Simon Tong, and Peter Salisbury; after losing his father at years 11, he hide under the influence of his stepfather, a member of the ancient profane monastic order of the Rosicrucians, wHO regularly performed experiments in judgement enlargement and the healing arts. While a scholarly person at Winstanley College in 1989, Ashcroft co-founded Verve with bassist Jones, drummer Salisbury, and guitar player Nick McCabe; signing to Virgin's Hut imprint to exit their 1992 debut single, "All in the Mind," Verve earned widespread praise for their majestic, oceanic guitar belt down, with the eminently quotable Ashcroft earning the dismissive cognomen "Insane Richard" from the U.K. press.

Contempt their critical hail, Verve oftentimes seemed at the mercifulness of forces away their control condition -- piece touring with the Lollapalooza fete in support of their 1993 debut LP, A Storm in Heaven, Ashcroft was hospitalized after excruciation from knockout dehydration, and within months the lot as well entered into a prolonged sound conflict with the American jazz label Verve, which resulted in an official call variety to "The Verve." Recorded under the influence of a massive ingestion of rapture, 1995's brilliant A Northern Soul efficaciously rent the band apart, although Ashcroft re-formed the lineup a few weeks later on. The re-formed Verve achieved international success with 1997's celebrated Urban Hymns, marking a series of hits including "Bittersweet Symphony," "The Drugs Don't Work," and "Lucky Man"; however, legal hassles awarded century percent of "Celastrus scandens Symphony"'s publication rights to ABKCO Music -- the song was reinforced on a Rolling Stones sample distribution -- and as friction between Ashcroft and McCabe resurfaced, the guitarist give up the group, and following a terminal duty tour, the Verve once more disbanded, this time for good.

Ashcroft's solo debut, Alone with Everybody, followed in mid-2000. Later that fall, Ashcroft far-famed his solo success with a ten-date sold-out American tour. Two days prior to kickoff in Chicago, the entire circuit was postponed due to Ashcroft's malady, and speculations were rapidly coupled to his old drug-using behaviour with the Verve. Those rumors were too wiped out cursorily, and the U.S. dates were rescheduled for January 2001. The following year, Ashcroft returned with his soul-searching, unearthly irregular record album, Human Conditions. Over the adjacent few days, Ashcroft returned to living a quiet life with his family. He too inked a recording compress with Parlophone subsequently his longtime label home base, Hut, went bankrupt in mid-2004. Ashcroft's long-awaited third gear album, Keys to the World, was released in March 2006.
